Outdoor Learning

At Green Lane we are fortunate to have extensive grounds providing a stimulating outdoor learning environment for our children.

Our pond and wildlife areas in particular provide year-round learning opportunities.

The children use the school grounds and areas to support their learning in a range of subjects from Physical Education to Science and the Arts. The children, parents and the wider community are actively involved in helping to maintain and develop these learning spaces.

Other activities and projects that these areas provide for the children, and that enhance the curriculum, are plant and vegetable growing projects and gardening clubs. The children also use these activities as a way to general income to help allow further development of these areas and support charities. The school also uses these facilities to take part in a number of national initiatives such as the RSPB’s Big School’s Birdwatch, the ‘Grow Your Own Potatoes’ project and Marie Curie’s ‘Mini Pots of Care’.
